“KIENINGER & OBERGFELL ) NO (0) JEWELS , MADE IN West-GERMANY UNADJUSTED “,0 Jewel Adjusted, simply means that the clock must be put in beat manually if it goes out of beat or whenever new pendulum spring wire is put in.
A few steps must be performed before the clock can be functioning accurately.
The buyer will receive
1. brass base with the clock and attached pendulum with pendulum locking mechanism
2. Glass dome,
3. key
4. Copies factory manual , and modified where is appropriate per already setup and used previously owned clock.
I cleaned elderly home after school in High School. One house,I came a cross the elderly owner, who had the clock near by her beautiful bed. I was told to leave the clock alone. A smile with sadness, she said, “My husband,Scotty, brought it home as our anniversary gift., we got married a week before his deployment to Germany,.. Oh I am a mother to 3 baby boomers…”
I came across one at Vincent DePaul 8 years ago, after serious car accident, I became valueless to most cooperate American IT companies. I became a regular at Vincent DePaul thrift store. I came across 400 day mechanical clock, no box,instructions,key. A minute I put in my cart, it became conversational pieces.
Thankfully, I got it home without breaking pendulum wire. I started googling as soon as I got home, and was discouraged that the clock was discontinued.
Thanks to seniors vintage antique clock bloggers, I am able to learn and enjoy this clock. This clock is recommended to have serviced by clock professional at least every 3 years. I am not an expert subject matter. I have been self taught to learn everything about the clock.
We are living in the fast pace world,and appreciate the essence of time,such as
quartz and satellite precision accurate time
However, I appreciate and very interested in mechanical hairline spring wire torsion movement 400 day Anniversary timepiece,especially KIENINGER & OBERGFELL & Elgin E49 AKA “German Time Bomb timepiece” ,
were manufactured during pre WWII -post WW2,this one I believe it was manufactured during Berlin Wall was in place, as it was marked as Made in West-Germany.
Every tickling sound, tells me that the pendulum arm just completed a rotation either toward the right direction or toward the left direction, and the second hand just advanced, as the mainspring just unwound for the second just passed,as I felt soothing and preserving the remembrance, treasuring the childhood in retrospect,the story was told that most young American soldiers brought home
German 400 day Anniversary clocks for their wives,parents and siblings after the war. This is one of the west German mechanical 400 day clocks that were manufactured and circulated In West Germany through WWII ERA.
My heart felt to one of my customers,who purchased the clock, as a memory of her uncle brought one for her mom,that was one of the exciting day,unfortunately her mother has passed, and she lost the clock to other siblings. I told her, even it was not the one that her mom treasured, but the clock was the original exact made from that Era; it would still gives the retrospect’s all good memories about her mother.
I continue self teaching about mechanical torsion clock 400 day Anniversary clock, so that can understand and assist my customers, fully know that I can never become an expert on gorgeous, that historical events attachments. But just enough historical knowledge to do basic cleaning and oiling before listing.
This listing was given basic service on April 17,2022, cleaning old oil and put new synthetic oil, best one recommended by horological expert. All brass part was polished back to near original patina. I ensured that the clock was put in beat. I wound the clock partially to monitor the timekeeping.
I also put together the modified version of operation manual, specific to the clock for this listing, in addition to the copy from original factory version .
The clock will be shipped in 3 business day. It will be monitored 24 hours, ensuring in working order as expected. If issues arrive,
the clock will not be shipped if there is unexpected issues arrive,such as potential damage or needs some corrections, the buyer will be notified accordingly.
I am taking responsibility,and work very hard to deliver quality product for thoughtful gift ,whether anniversary, birthday, special event date,wedding. I do every effort that I can in safely packing,with extra safely handling fee,to ensure that the clock will NOT be handled BY ROBOTS OR MACHINES during in transit . The box should be opened gently without too much vibration while the label should be on top.
Then review the original setup modified version prior to unwrapping the clock.

Condition: The clock was serviced on April 17,2022 . It should be in good working condition as expecting, just follow the instructions provided.
In order to keep excellent working condition, the clock should be serviced at least every three years.
The glass dome is in excellent condition. This glass dome should be breaking resistance. However, please handle with care according to the instructions that comes with the clock. The clock was finished with cleanEd with Pre-lim Surface Cleaner and polished with British museum used product-Renaissance Wax Polish
Underneath the base,shown in photo #8,there is rusted screw footed wheels and old stubborn mark,nothing has worked to remove it
As shown in #9, there are light airline cracks/scratches
Beside the cosmetic aging imperfections,the clock is excellent used working condition.
However, as you know, this is antique retro listing clock, which can be inevitable subjective judgmental accepted reactions to normal wear and age.
