Brief history
“Medieval Rapier Sword is very popular in spain in the early 1600’s, the Cup-Hilt Rapier gave total protection for the hand. The shell hand guard cup defense on the weapon itself became necessary after armored gauntlets were discarded alongside heavier armors in the 16 century.
The word rapier itself perhaps derives from the Spanish ‘’espada ropera’’, the ‘’sword of the robes’’ – marking it as a favorite civilian weapon. Fighting techniques of the time emphasized using an off-hand secondary weapon or buckler to deflect an opponents attack and to then follow up with a counter-thrust, often to the face.”
These swords have all the 16th century rapier sword characteristics, the Hilt parts were crafted from yellow brass sheet and yellow brass tubes.
The blades were crafted from the solid carefully tempered steel blade with slender and sharply-pointed two-edged blade.
The decorated Cup/Basket hilt was chased and repousse around yellow brass sheet, and was sealed with shallow brass sheet disc attached right below the crossguard, which aimed to strengthen the protection of the hand guard,
creating the cup/basket hilt appearance of cross hand guard, would give total protection for the hand and the dressy looks to the sword.
The grip handle was crafted from yellow brass tube, adorned with black cotton twisted threaded strings wrapped around, creating comfortable grip for long periods of fencing reenactment.
